Crystal Palace are reportedly willing to loan defender Chadi Riyad amid growing interest from Sheffield United, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
The 22-year-old centre-back, who originally joined Selhurst Park for £14m in 2024, has struggled to get regular minutes this season, with Palace considering a temporary move to help him regain form and confidence.
Riyad has a contract with Palace until 2029, so the club still sees him as a long-term asset.
However, with opportunities limited under manager Oliver Glasner, a loan spell is seen as the most beneficial next step for his development.
Crystal Palace ready to release defender Chadi Riyad
Palace believe consistent Championship football can accelerate progress far more effectively than sporadic Premier League appearances.
The Eagles have already undertaken a major defensive rebuild this season, most notably selling Marc Guehi to Manchester City in January’s big move.
Further changes are expected as head coach Glasner reorganizes his team, and Riaad has emerged as the most likely candidate to leave next, albeit on a temporary basis unlike Guehi.
Meanwhile, Sheffield United appear to be the favorites to secure his signature for the remainder of the campaign.
The Blades are in dire need of reinforcements at the back as they try to climb up from the bottom of the Championship standings.
Riyadh could give Sheffield United more defensive depth and quality
Riyad is seen as a player who can add poise and ball-playing quality to Wilder’s backline.
His experience and potential at both La Liga and Premier League level, combined with his potential, make him an attractive short-term solution as Sheffield United look to stabilize their season.
For Palace, allowing Riyad to leave on loan will give him the chance to gain consistent playing time that he was unable to get in London.
With the club entering a period of transition under Glasner, the Moroccan defender’s temporary departure could also help streamline the squad while preparing for a bigger role next season.
