England appears to have settled on Kansas City as their training hub for the upcoming 2026 World Cup. With just under six months until the tournament kicks off, preparations are intensifying across North America. The Three Lions are requesting approximately £15 million ($21 million) for the establishment of their training base this summer.

England’s Challenging World Cup Draw

Having secured their place in the 2026 World Cup with ease, England will compete in Group L alongside Ghana, Panama, and Croatia. They will kick off their campaign against Croatia, a team they famously defeated in the 2018 semi-finals. Coach Tuchel acknowledges the strength of their opponents.

“We face Croatia and Ghana, both seasoned World Cup teams, as well as Panama, about whom I don’t know much, but that will change once the tournament commences. Each of these teams is a tough competitor, and I urge everyone not to underestimate them. Croatia is a formidable side, and opening against them will be a significant test. Ghana has a rich history and talent, and Panama deserves respect as well, which we are determined to demonstrate.”

Tuchel’s New Journey

Having built a reputation as one of the world’s top managers through his successes with Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea—culminating in a Champions League title in 2021—Tuchel is now entering uncharted territory as he leads England in the World Cup.

“My only previous experience of group football has been in the Champions League,” Tuchel shared in December. “We’ve always approached it with the utmost respect, aiming to win the group. Our current group is challenging, but we’re confident. With our games starting soon, our full focus will be on our opponents; it’s quite the challenge to secure a top spot against four ambitious teams.”

England’s Kansas City Base

Reports from BBC Sport indicate that England plans to make Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City their training base for the World Cup. Although FIFA’s confirmation of training facilities will likely come in early February, the association is reportedly aiming to secure this cutting-edge facility. England’s matches against Croatia, Ghana, and Panama will occur in Texas, Boston, and New Jersey, with players expected to return to Kansas City after each game. It’s unclear if this base will remain if the team goes all the way to the finals.

What’s Next for England?

Before turning their attention to the World Cup, England will engage in a friendly match against Uruguay at Wembley in late March, just days away. This will serve as a warm-up as all three teams aim for the prestigious trophy this summer.

Fan Take: The news of England’s preparation and choice of Kansas City for their World Cup base is pivotal for soccer enthusiasts, reflecting a strategic effort to bolster performance on the world stage. As teams like England gear up for high-stakes competition, it builds excitement and anticipation for what promises to be a thrilling tournament.
