Dan Hooker Opens Up on Why He’s Holding Back from a Fight with Paddy Pimblett—Despite Still Wanting to ‘Kick Him in the Head’

Recently, the UFC lightweight division has seen a surge in fierce competition.

Dan Hooker is preparing for a swift comeback as he returns to action at UFC 325 in Sydney this weekend. Known as “The Hangman,” he is set for another significant fight, facing Benoit Saint-Denis, but this won’t be the only major 155-pound bout happening this January. Hooker mentioned to Paddy Pimblett that they had spoken in person following their heated exchanges. After last weekend’s interim lightweight title fight, many speculated that a fight between Hooker and Pimblett might be next.

The ongoing rivalry between Paddy Pimblett and Dan Hooker shows no signs of fading, which is understandable given their recent comments. On January 24th, Pimblett endured his first UFC defeat after a five-round battle with Justin Gaethje. This emerging rivalry could mark a major comeback fight for Pimblett, provided the stars align.

In a recent interview on the Ariel Helwani Show, Hooker emphasized that confrontation should happen face-to-face, making it clear there’s no room for disrespect behind the scenes. “What do we need to talk about? It applies to everyone,” he said, adding that anyone who disrespects him will face physical consequences. Despite the tension, Hooker admitted he felt no pleasure watching Pimblett lose and surprisingly revealed he doesn’t plan to chase a fight with him after UFC 325. He called pursuing Pimblett “the stupidest thing you can do,” explaining that their mutual animosity hasn’t disappeared but that he doesn’t want to jeopardize his future by fighting when emotions are high.

Looking ahead, Hooker has his sights set on other significant lightweight bouts rather than a fight fueled by personal rivalry. During the same appearance, he mentioned potential matchups that interest him, including a BMF title fight and a fight with Arman Tsarukyan, whom he has grown to respect and support as a fan. While a clash with Pimblett would undoubtedly draw attention in 2026, Hooker seems focused on carefully choosing fights that advance his career strategically.

Fan Take: This burgeoning rivalry highlights the intensity and drama that make UFC lightweight fights so captivating for fans. A future matchup between Hooker and Pimblett could not only settle personal scores but also shift the division’s landscape, making it a must-watch event in the sport.
