  • Newcastle United hint at parting ways with Howe
  • Should the Magpies look for another manager?

Newcastle United sit ninth in the Premier League table, with doubts being raised over Eddie Howe’s long-term future at the club.

The Magpies are backing the manager financially and expect the team to be in a much better position than they currently are.

Howe’s side have struggled for consistency all season and although he led the club to Carabao Cup success last year, progress was expected to be made this season, but that has not been the case.

Former Premier League star Stan Collymore has claimed Jose Mourinho wants to take over the Newcastle United job if Howe is sacked.

Managerial changes are in full swing in the Premier League, with Chelsea and Manchester United appointing new managers, and Liverpool and Tottenham potentially looking for a new manager as well.

Collymore has suggested Mourinho the Newcastle United job and warned Howe his future at St James’ Park could be in trouble.

He wrote to X:

“I like to bring out Jordy’s opinion on the possibility that Mourinho is striving for the job, but you only have to listen to his last Benfica press voice to know that he would put himself in that position again.

“Don’t underestimate the connection between Mendes, Mourinho and Saudi Arabia.

“In terms of super coach Eddie, he learned from his[defensive]Achilles heel at Bournemouth and you guys are League Cup winners, Champions League winners and you shouldn’t be underestimated.

“But the big signings don’t brighten things up, and one or two players who have been great over the last two seasons have hit a plateau.

“Don’t think it’s a panic station, but if we can finish outside of Europe this season it will be interesting.

“I think the owner will take a look at it then.

“But it’s (possible) to win the Cup again and he’s doing his job! It’s close.

“I’m a reluctant (I thought the Bournemouth team was incredibly naive, like Angeball Wright) fan, so I hope he’s given time.”

So far, Newcastle’s owners have shown full confidence in Howe and his plans to take the club forward.

The English manager has kept the club competitive during difficult times.

The fact that he delivered them a trophy and ended their drought is highly praised by the owners.

However, we have seen other managers elsewhere and winning trophies may still not be enough if the manager is not doing the job according to the owner’s plan.

Landing a manager like Mourinho would be a big statement for the Magpies, but is he the right man for the job now? That question remains unanswered.
