Liverpool are interested in signing Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet.
The 20-year-old is highly regarded across Europe and has attracted the attention of Chelsea. According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are in “active negotiations” for the player and there is a “huge battle” over his signature.
Jeremy Jacquet is in demand
German champions Bayern Munich are also interested in the defender. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can make a deal this month. They hope to secure an agreement in January. However, the defender will not join the team midway through the season and a move will likely only take place in the summer. Premier League clubs now appear keen to secure an agreement ahead of the competition. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.
Liverpool and Chelsea need a jacket
It’s no secret that Liverpool need a quality central defender and the 20-year-old could be ideal for them. He is a young player with huge potential and with the right guidance he could develop into a top-class defender. Ibrahima Konate’s contract expires at the end of the season, so Liverpool need to properly replace him. Jaquet could be an ideal replacement for his compatriot. He has the physical and technical attributes to thrive in the Premier League and Liverpool could develop him into a future star.
Chelsea, on the other hand, are looking pretty mediocre defensively and need upgrades in players like Axel Disasi and Benoît Badiashile. The 20-year-old French defender would be a solid long-term signing for them. Whether they win the competition for his signature remains to be seen. Both clubs have the financial power to make a lucrative offer to the French club and it will be interesting to see how the situation develops.
