Taiba’s Daughter Dominates OBS January Winter Mix Sale, Powers Bayer to Banner Day Victory

Beth Beyer had a strong personal connection to the Taiba gray or roan mares she consigned at the 2026 Ocala Breeders Sales Company January Winter Mix Sale. One yearling filly, cataloged as Hip 80, quickly became a favorite at Beyer’s stable after arriving at the track, not only due to her quality but also because Beyer had bred her and closely followed her growth from birth. “I raised her and loved her from day one,” Beyer shared. This deep affection translated into a successful sale when the filly fetched over $150,000 during the one-day January Winter Mix Sale on January 27.

In addition to selling the Taiba filly to Mark Gunderson, Beyer also consigned Hip 22, a Nashville-bred colt who brought the second-highest bid of the event at $140,000, after Always Dreaming attracted buyers. By the end of the sale, Beyer had successfully sold three of his top four horses, including Hip 133, a Zandon-owned mare out of the winning Roman Ruler filly Built in a Day, which was purchased by Pine Creek Ranch for $90,000. The market for young horses was anticipated to be strong, and the sale confirmed this, especially with Taiba’s filly standing out due to her impressive lineage—she is related to Unbridled’s Song mare Tranquil Song and is a half-sister to multiple Grade 2 winner Isolate, who races in Dubai. Beyer noted, “I loved everything about her. She had real class and fit perfectly for me. At the end of the day, it paid off.”

The Nashville-bred stallion consigned by Beyer also yielded significant returns. Bred by the Boone Family Trust, this horse descends from stakes-winning Forest Wildcat mare Rapid Racer and is a half-brother to graded stakes competitor Leeds Babygirl. Rapid Racer herself is related to Ticket to Houston, the dam of multiple stakes winner Runway Model—a Grade 1 winner and the dam of stallion McKinzie. Beyer expressed satisfaction with the stallion’s qualities, calling him a “big, strong horse with the bone, size, and substance I expected.” Another Nashville colt, Hip 90, was sold to Dark Horse Racing for $75,000. Overall, Beyer topped the consignors with 21 horses sold totaling $719,800. Among Beyer’s leading horses was Simplification’s Hip 191, which reached a six-figure price of $100,000 when purchased by Rising Dividends Racing.

Other notable sales included Hip 91, a colt out of Pappacap sold for $85,000, and Hip 260, a Cairo Prince colt selling for $85,000 as well. Hip 49, a colt out of Drain the Clock, fetched $82,000, while Hip 116 (Engage’s mare) and Hip 217 (Mam Said Win, by Win Win Win) both sold for $65,000 each. The highest-priced broodmare was Callie’s Courage, a Garvin daughter consigned by Kaizen Sales, who sold for $48,000. She was in foal to Ganite and is from the family of multiple graded stakes winners.

The January Winter Mix Sale outperformed the previous year across all major benchmarks. On January 27, a total of 186 horses sold for $3,507,850, exceeding 2025’s total of $3,093,700 from 212 head. The average sale price rose to $18,859 from $14,593, and the median increased to $12,000 from $7,500 in 2025. However, the RNA (reserve not attained) rate rose to 27.6% from 21.4%. Meanwhile, bidding has opened for the OBSOnline January Racing Age and Two-Year-Old Horse Sale, ending January 30 at noon ET. The next live OBS sales include the March 2-Year-Old Horse Training Sale (March 10-12) and the Undertuck Show (March 4-7). Updates on OBS sales and participants are also available via Facebook and X.
