Chelsea could reportedly use Aaron Anselmino as part of their bid to sign Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet.
According to the Telegraph, the Blues’ surprise decision to recall Anselmino from his loan to Borussia Dortmund could make him an option to offer Rennes, as they are likely to want a replacement for Jaquet.
There has also been talk of Chelsea using Axel Disasi in this way, but it remains to be seen whether that is a possibility.
Chelsea could have more options in defence, and Anselmino could just be returning to Stamford Bridge to provide that.
However, it cannot be ruled out that the west London giants are trying to make an offer to Rennes to eventually sign Jaquet.
Chelsea’s defensive transfer plans still unresolved
Jacquet now looks like the ideal player for Chelsea after his good form in Ligue 1, but there still seems to be a lot of uncertainty as to how this saga will end.
As Fabrizio Romano posted on X yesterday, Jaquet is currently being targeted by Chelsea as a summer target rather than a January target.
However, the journalist has also named Liverpool and Bayern Munich as rivals for the young Frenchman’s signature, so see below for more details…
Romano posted: “The race to sign Jeremy Jacquet is still on for the summer transfer window. As has become clear, Chelsea, Liverpool and FC Bayern are all in active negotiations… We want to sign him now for next season 2026/27. Negotiations are ongoing.”
It will be interesting to see if this could change in the coming days, or if CFC simply decide to use Anselmino as a last-line additional option from now until the end of the season.
The talented young Argentine has certainly impressed during his time in the Bundesliga and has earned the chance to show what he can do for Liam Rosenior’s side.
