Chelsea are likely to sign Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet ahead of Bayern Munich, who are interested in Josh Acheampong, according to reports.

This is the latest update from Christian Falk’s CF Bayern Insider column, in which the German journalist explains that Jaquet is unlikely to move to Bayern.

The talented young French defender has attracted strong interest from Chelsea, who are once again on the market for the best young talent in world football.

It would seem that Jaquet would have been a great option for Bayern as well, but their focus seems to be on Acheampong instead.

Regarding these contracts, Mr. Falk said: “Bayern Munich are not big competitors for Jeremy Jacquet.

“They know about him and there is a market for him in the summer, but at the moment Bayern are not involved in negotiations. This means there is a big opportunity for the Premier League.”

“I think it would cost around 50 million euros (about £43.3 million) to sign him. Bayern are still waiting and are not going to invest in the Rennes star right now, so I think Chelsea have a pretty good chance.”

Regarding Achiampong’s move to Bayern, Falk added: “It’s true: Bayern Munich are tracking Josh Achiampong.

“Chelsea’s centre-back fits the profile Bayern are looking for. He is 19 years old, not very expensive and has real quality for the future.”

“Of course, Bayern are still planning to use Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan in defense. So they don’t want to bring in a player who is thinking of starting right away in the last line. That’s why a player like Achiampong is interesting for FC Bayern.”

“I heard that Bayern were also interested in the teenager last summer, but for now we have to wait and see what Upamecano decides.”

Will Chelsea get the defensive reinforcements they need?

Chelsea have some problems in defence, so it would be really possible to sign Jaquet before the end of this transfer window.

Ben Jacobs has suggested to Give Me Sport that Rennes’ hope is to keep Jaquet until the summer, but it appears the Blues are still trying to sign him.

Fortunately for Chelsea, they don’t seem to have to worry about Bayern becoming rivals in this deal, although their interest in Achiampong may be something to consider.

Even if Jacquet is a strong prospect, should CFC really be willing to spend so much money on a player like Acheampong when they already have a talent like Acheampong in their squad who is attracting the attention of elite clubs like Bayern?
