Newcastle United have been given the opportunity to enter the race for Angel Gomez late, with the Marseille midfielder emerging as one of the names Premier League clubs are eyeing.

Media have reportedly contacted Newcastle United to outline the possibility of signing Gomez, with Marseille indicating they are willing to allow a move before the deadline.

According to TEAMtalk, Gomez is open to returning to English football this month and believes regular appearances are important to regain momentum at a crucial stage in his career.

That ambition is closely linked to his international aspirations, with the midfielder keen to re-establish himself in the England squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup cycle under manager Thomas Tuchel.

The England international only arrived in France last summer after leaving Lille, but his role under manager Robert de Zerbi has diminished in recent weeks.

Angel Gomez wants more playing time

Despite his reduced appearances at Marseille, with only brief cameos in recent Ligue 1 matches, Gomez’s quality remains highly regarded.

From Newcastle’s point of view, Gomez would represent a different midfield profile to many of the players currently at Eddie Howe’s disposal.

He is a player who likes to hold the ball, pass the ball around, bring other players into the game and provide more control in the middle of the park.

While questions remain over how quickly he can adapt midway through the season, the advantages of a player with a proven Ligue 1 pedigree are clear.

Newcastle are not the only club keeping an eye on the situation, with Wolverhampton Wanderers believed to be in talks.

Everton, Brighton & Hove Albion, Fulham and Sunderland have all flagged his availability, indicating the level of domestic interest in the 25-year-old.

Gomez, who has made four first-team appearances for England so far, is now entering a stage where consistency at club level is essential.

A return to England in January could provide the foundation he needs to reset his career trajectory, and Newcastle’s late involvement could add yet another attractive twist to a rapidly developing transfer saga.

Howe would love to have a player like Gomez on his team. The midfield focuses on strength, including Bruno Guimarães, Joelinton, and Sandro Tonali, but Gomez can be said to be the ideal player to complement them and bring more flair.
