Stephanie White has a deep understanding of basketball.

Though she might not be widely known to NBA fans yet, White possesses an unparalleled knowledge of the game, which earned her the role of color commentator for Friday night’s Raptors versus Magic matchup. She will be paired with seasoned play-by-play announcer Mark Jones, while Katie George covers the sideline reporting.

For those unfamiliar with Stephanie White, here’s a closer look at her background.

Who is Stephanie White?

Stephanie White is the head coach of the Indiana Fever in the WNBA, a team led by star player Caitlin Clark.

At 48 years old, White boasts an extensive history in basketball, both as a player and coach.

Stephanie White’s Basketball Background

White’s basketball talents were evident early on. During her high school years at Seeger High School in Indiana, she was named Indiana Miss Basketball in 1995 and earned the Gatorade Player of the Year award.

She went on to attend Purdue University, where she helped secure a national championship in 1999 and was honored with a spot on the All-Tournament team under her then-name, Stephanie White-McCarty.

White was selected by the Charlotte Sting in the second round of the WNBA Draft and played professionally from 1999 to 2003.

Her coaching career includes assistant roles at Ball State University, Kansas State University, and the University of Toledo before moving up to assistant coaching positions with the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever. She served as head coach for the Fever in 2015 and 2016 before spending five years coaching at Vanderbilt from 2016 to 2021.

White returned to the professional ranks with the Connecticut Sun for the 2023-24 season and was named head coach of the Fever again starting in 2025. Her exceptional leadership earned her the 2023 WNBA Coach of the Year award.

Before taking the helm of the Fever, White also contributed as an NBA analyst.

Stephanie White’s Personal Life and Broadcasting Ties

Stephanie White is currently in a relationship with NFL sideline reporter Lisa Salters. The couple resides in Nashville and are raising four sons together.

Fan Take: Stephanie White’s transition from a respected WNBA coach to an NBA commentator represents a significant crossover that shines a brighter spotlight on women’s basketball talent. Her presence in the NBA broadcast booth not only elevates the perception of female basketball professionals but also inspires fans and players alike, signaling progressive growth for the sport.
