G3 Champion Himika Set to Make Exciting Turf Debut in Sweet Life Stakes

Himika and Mohaven, both accomplished graders stakes winners against California colts, will be making their turf debuts in a large field of 12 for Saturday’s Sweet Life Stakes. This race for 3-year-old fillies covers about six and a half furlongs on Santa Anita’s famed hillside turf course. Also joining the competition are Michael McCarthy’s La Ville Lumiere, who recently defeated Blue Nozer, and Yours Sincerely, trained by Phil D’Amato, coming off a strong allowance win as she steps into stakes company.

Himika has run exclusively on dirt in seven starts, capturing her debut at Santa Anita in June by six lengths before quickly rebounding to win the G3 Sorento Stakes at Del Mar. She also claimed last year’s Anoachia Stakes at Santa Anita in October. Starting the year 2025 with a fourth-place finish over seven furlongs at the Santa Ynez Racetrack on January 10th, Himika—owned by Baoma Corp and trained by Bob Baffert—holds a record of 7:3-1-0 and has earned $228,822. Juan Hernandez, her jockey in all her wins, will ride her again.

Mohaven, ridden by Hector Berrios and trained by John Sadler, will tackle turf for the first time in the Open Company Stakes. Mohaven’s last victory was in the Golden State Juvenile Fillies, winning over seven furlongs by 1 1/4 lengths in October. She stands with a 4:2-2-0 record and has earned $182,750 representing owner Legacy Ranch.

Yours Sincerely, trained by Phil D’Amato, returns to stakes racing following a sharp allowance victory over six furlongs on Santa Anita’s turf on January 11. The Irish-bred Cable Bay filly has finished second in three stakes events: the G3 Jimmy Durante at Del Mar in November, the G3 Surfer Girl at Santa Anita in October, and the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf last September. Owned by the Benowitz Family Trust, Madaket Stables, CYBT, and partners, she will be ridden by Kazushi Kimura.
