In Edmonton, Alberta, Matthias Macelli scored two goals as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Oilers 5-2 on Tuesday night. Matthew Knies contributed with a goal and an assist, while John Tavares netted his 20th goal of the season. Bobby McMann added an empty-netter to seal the victory.

Anthony Stolarz made 34 saves out of 36 shots for Toronto, notably making a diving stop on Leon Draisaitl near the end of the third period to keep Edmonton from mounting a comeback. For Edmonton, Jake Wollman and Kasperi Kapanen scored, but the Oilers have now lost two consecutive games. Connor Ingram, the Maple Leafs’ goalie, stopped 22 shots.

Toronto heads into the Olympic break after a convincing 4-2 win against Calgary on Monday, marking their third straight victory. Early in the third period, Kapanen tied the game at two, but costly penalties by Edmonton proved decisive. Rookie Mathieu Savoie was disciplined for interference, followed shortly by Janmark for a high stick. Macelli scored on a 5-on-3 power play less than a minute later, and Tavares scored on the power play at 7:42 to give Toronto the lead. The Maple Leafs successfully converted both power plays, while Edmonton failed to score during their only opportunity.

Toronto is set to leave for the Olympic break and will travel to Tampa Bay on February 25, while Edmonton will play in Calgary on Wednesday.

Fan Take: This game highlights the importance of discipline and special teams, as penalties played a crucial role in Toronto’s victory. For hockey enthusiasts, such matchups underscore how crucial every moment and decision can be in shaping the outcome, adding to the sport’s excitement and unpredictability.
