Mohamed Salah has overtaken Premier League icons Wayne Rooney and Thierry Henry to claim the record, further emphasizing his importance to Liverpool during a challenging period at Anfield.

Salah netted one of Liverpool’s four goals in their victory against Newcastle, bouncing back from a lackluster home loss.

Salah’s Return to Form After Frustration

He had been unable to score against the Magpies, with his last Premier League goal occurring on November 1, 2025, after which he found himself on the bench.

Following an emotional outburst directed at Liverpool’s management over his limited role, the 33-year-old forward, who has won the Premier League, Champions League, Golden Boot, and PFA Player of the Year awards, seems to have resolved his issues.

Salah is now set to participate in the African Cup of Nations, bringing him a welcome break from the media scrutiny, having been restored to Arne Slott’s starting lineup.

Salah Sets Two Premier League Records Against Newcastle

Salah’s significant effort against Newcastle included a vital equalizer set up by Hugo Ekitike. He now has 10 goals for the season, matching his tally against the Magpies.

The Egyptian forward becomes the first player to score double figures against a single opponent in two divisions of the Premier League. Additionally, he leads all players in goal contributions in the competition’s history with 152.

His tally includes 107 goals and 45 assists at Anfield, placing him ahead of Rooney and Henry in that regard. Given his contract extending until 2027, Salah is positioned to further his legacy.

Salah’s Resurgence for the Reds

Liverpool legend Steve McManaman is thrilled to witness Salah’s return to top form, temporarily quelling any transfer rumors. The former winger commented to TNT Sports: “He brings balance to Liverpool. When he was absent during AFCON, the team’s performance suffered significantly.”

“Salah prefers to play on the right wing, and when he’s on the pitch contributing and scoring, Liverpool is a much stronger side. This fruitful relationship is promising as they look forward to the rest of the season.”

Transfer Prospects: Liverpool Eye New Additions

Salah is expected to remain with Liverpool for the foreseeable future, but the club may be on the lookout for new talent before the winter transfer window closes.

When questioned about transfer plans amid ongoing chatter regarding Liverpool’s record spending spree from summer 2025, Slott remarked after their victory over Newcastle: “There’s always talk surrounding Liverpool players. The noise you hear today from the fans shows the true support we have, and we are focused on strengthening our squad, not weakening it. The next 48 hours will be telling.”

With Liverpool not expected to play again until February 8 against fierce rivals Manchester City at Anfield, they can concentrate on transfer activities during the remaining days of the window.

Editorial Opinion:
Salah’s achievements highlight his pivotal role in Liverpool’s attacking strategy and the broader impact he has on the game. His records not only elevate his status but also spark hope for fans that Liverpool can maintain a competitive edge in both domestic and international arenas.
