Newcastle United are reportedly among the clubs interested in a potential move for Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson.
The Scotland international has fallen down the pecking order this season after a fantastic career at Anfield and is nearing the end of his contract at Anfield.
As a result, Tottenham decided to move to acquire Robertson in the January transfer window that just ended, reports such as The Athletic reported at the time.
Robertson ended up staying, but TEAMtalk reports that he is now being monitored by other suitors, including Newcastle.
Andrew Robertson on free transfer from Liverpool
It seems inevitable that Robertson will leave Liverpool this summer, as it is difficult to imagine a scenario in which he signs a new contract.
Young Milos Kerkes is now firmly ahead of Robertson in Arne Slott’s pecking order, so it certainly makes sense for all involved to go their separate ways in the summer.
Still, even if this wasn’t the end of his LFC career that he had hoped for, there is no doubt that Robertson will be a great servant and will be up there alongside arguably their defense’s all-time greats.
The 31-year-old won two Premier League titles and the Champions League during his time on Merseyside, and was one of the most consistent performers not only in great Jurgen Klopp’s side but also in last season’s title-winning side in the slot.
Will Andrew Robertson get the job done at Newcastle?
Tottenham’s interest shows Robertson is still available for work at most Premier League clubs, and Newcastle could make a smart deal.
However, there could be a lot of interest in Robertson this summer, so it remains to be seen whether the Magpies can make the most attractive offer for him.
TEAMtalk’s report also mentions Aston Villa and Celtic, but Newcastle are clearly the more promising project at the moment, a club with a great history and a lively atmosphere at St James’ Park.
