Atlanta Falcons rookie James Pierce Jr. was taken into custody Saturday on multiple domestic violence-related charges, according to Miami-Dade County jail records. He faces two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated stalking, fleeing or evading police with lights or sirens, aggravated assault involving a law enforcement officer, and resisting an officer without violence. Pierce was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and no bond has been set, records show.
Local 10 News reported that officers responded to a call about an altercation between a man and a woman; Pierce allegedly fled the scene and crashed his vehicle during a police pursuit. A social-media video circulated after the incident appears to show seven officers forcing him to the ground and putting him in handcuffs.
The Falcons issued a brief statement saying they are aware of the incident, are gathering more information, and will not comment further while legal matters remain unresolved.
Pierce was the Falcons’ first-round pick (26th overall) in the 2025 NFL Draft after two seasons as an All-SEC First Team defender at Tennessee. In his rookie year he recorded 26 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks, finishing third in voting for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Fan take: This matters because off-field legal issues can quickly affect a young player’s availability, reputation, and the team’s roster plans, and could trigger NFL discipline if charges proceed. For fans, it’s a reminder that promising on-field talent can be overshadowed by conduct concerns, with real consequences for the sport’s image and competitive outlook.
