Manchester United are said to be set to sign Cristian Romero from Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United icon Paul Scholes has urged the club to sign the Argentine defender at the end of the season, according to a report in Ficajes newspaper. The 27-year-old has been linked with a move away from Tottenham and it will be interesting to see if Manchester United intend to offer him a way out.
Signing the defender would cost around £70m-80m. Manchester United certainly have the financial wherewithal to avoid him and he could be a great signing for them. It’s no secret that they need a quality central defender, and a South American player could be ideal. Apart from his qualities as a defender, his leadership skills could also prove invaluable. He could be Harry Maguire’s ideal long-term successor at Old Trafford.
The opportunity to join Manchester United could be an attractive one for the South American player. He will be fighting for big trophies and the chance to represent Manchester United will be hard to pass up.
They have shown great progress in recent weeks and will be fighting for trophies next season. The defender will no doubt be attracted to the idea of taking the next step in his career and joining a bigger club. He is firmly established in the Premier League and could make an immediate impact at Old Trafford. Even though a transfer would be a significant investment, the quality of the player would justify the move and establish him as an essential asset to the club.
Manchester United need an elite player like him if they want to compete regularly for major trophies.
