Formula 1 is gearing up for a new chapter with the 2026 season by kicking off the first of two pre-season test sessions in Bahrain this week. Over the next two weeks, all 11 teams will spend six days in total divided into two three-day sessions to fine-tune their new cars in preparation for the upcoming championship.

When and where is the 2026 F1 pre-season testing happening?
The first round of pre-season testing will take place from Wednesday, February 11th to Friday, February 13th. The second session is scheduled exactly one week later, from Wednesday, February 18th through Friday, February 20th. Both sessions will be held at the Bahrain International Circuit, running daily from 7 am to 4 pm UK time, with a one-hour lunch break included.

Each of the 11 teams will have eight hours of track time per day with their cars. If a team only fields one car, the two drivers will share driving duties, allowing each to spend roughly a day and a half on track, which translates to about 12 hours of driving per test. All teams, except Williams, conducted a private shakedown session in Barcelona at the end of January to give their new cars their first run, but the Bahrain tests will be far more thorough.

During these sessions, teams will not only check the software and hardware but also push their cars hard while simulating race weekend conditions. They will gain a deeper understanding of new rules such as overtake mode, boost mode, and active aerodynamics. While performance evaluation will be a focus, teams are expected to keep strategic details under wraps.

How can fans watch the 2026 F1 pre-season testing?
While coverage is more limited compared to race weekends, the tests are less private than the Barcelona shakedown. In the UK, Sky Sports F1 will broadcast the final hour of each testing day live, from 3 pm to 4 pm. They will also air a 30-minute program called ‘Test Lap’ at 8 pm, followed by ‘Ted’s Test Notebook’ at 8:30 pm. Real-time data and timings will be accessible daily on F1.com.

What other ways can fans follow the 2026 pre-season testing?
Although the live TV window is restricted, Crash.net will offer comprehensive live updates throughout each testing day. A live blog, along with hourly results, news, and detailed reports, will be available on its website ensuring fans stay informed about every on-track development.

Fan Take:
This pre-season testing phase is crucial because it gives fans the first real glimpse of how teams adapt to transformative regulation changes that could shake up the competitive order. For racing enthusiasts, these tests set the stage for an exciting season where innovation and strategy will likely redefine racing dynamics in F1.
