The 2026 World Baseball Classic promises to feature many big-name players, but it will be missing at least one major star. Corbin Carroll, the standout outfielder for the Arizona Diamondbacks, will not represent Team USA after fracturing his right hamate bone during batting practice on Tuesday, according to ESPN. Carroll is expected to have surgery on Wednesday and may begin the 2026 MLB season on the injured list.

Carroll, a two-time All-Star, was set to participate in his first World Baseball Classic with the United States. He has led the National League in home runs for the past three seasons.

In the 2023 season, Carroll, who was named the National League Rookie of the Year that same year, finished with a batting line of .259/.343/.541. He recorded 31 home runs, 84 RBIs, 32 stolen bases, and contributed 5.8 wins above replacement, earning his first Silver Slugger Award in the process. Additionally, he provided solid defense, scoring seven defensive runs in right field.

The tournament kicks off on March 4, with Team USA facing Brazil on March 6. FOX will be the main broadcaster for the event.

Fan Take: Losing Corbin Carroll is a tough blow for Team USA and fans who were eager to see one of baseball’s brightest young stars compete on the international stage. This setback highlights how delicate player health is leading up to major tournaments and could impact the level of competition and excitement for the Classic.
