  • Arne Slott against Mo Salah after the match
  • This could be Salah’s last season at Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has equaled Steven Gerrard’s record for most assists in the Reds’ history in the Premier League, joining another Liverpool legend.

The Egyptian king recorded his 92nd assist in the competition on Wednesday night, converting a brilliant corner kick that captain Virgil van Dijk headed home to seal a hard-fought 1-0 win against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

The milestone moment came in the 61st minute of a close game, breaking the deadlock and allowing Salah to equal Gerrard’s long-standing record.

It’s yet another record for the 33-year-old, who has broken almost every record that would be broken in his nine years at the club.

Arne Slott against Mo Salah after the match

At MOTD, Liverpool manager Arne Slott acknowledged the greatness of sharing the record with such an iconic figure as Gerrard and was full of praise for his talisman.

“He has so many records for this club, but to be able to pair him with such a great player. Both were incredible players for this club.”

When asked if he thought Salah would claim the record outright, the Dutchman was candid about the inevitability of the achievement.

“Unfortunately for Stephen, I expect Mo to surpass him. I don’t have any expectations, but I hope he surpasses him,” Slott added.

This could be Salah’s last season at Liverpool

Despite making history on the pitch, Salah’s long-term future at Anfield remains the subject of intense speculation.

The winger has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Pro League giants Al Ittihad this summer.

According to recent reports, the Saudi club have already begun preliminary talks with Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, to explore the possibility of a big move.

The Egyptian king is said to be more open to a move than usual after he clashed with Slott in December and expressed dissatisfaction with Salah being made the scapegoat.

A summer departure for Liverpool’s record-breaker is becoming an increasingly likely scenario, with Liverpool also looking to sign him and Al Ittihad looking for replacements for high-profile departures such as Karim Benzema.
