That’s according to a report from Football Paparazzi, who claimed that given the timing of De Zerbi’s departure from Marseille, the former Brighton man is very likely to take over the Spurs job.
Roberto de Zerbi is Tottenham’s favorite
Hours before Tottenham announced the sacking of manager Thomas Frank, the Italian officially parted ways with Marseille by mutual agreement.
According to reports, an interim manager model similar to Manchester United’s would currently make the most sense for Spurs, who could have waited to approach Mauricio Pochettino after the World Cup, but signing De Zerbi would “change the equation” for Tottenham.

The report also mentions Mauricio Pochettino and Xabi Alonso as two other elite managers who could have long-term roles.
However, with Pochettino currently managing the USMNT, his move may have to wait until after the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Alonso may wait for his opportunity at Anfield, with Arne Slott’s future at the club also uncertain.
Tottenham need to make an immediate impact to avoid a relegation battle
The intensity at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium cannot be overstated. After a disastrous 2-1 defeat at home to Newcastle, Spurs have plummeted to 16th in the Premier League, just five points above the relegation zone.
The club needs a manager who can make an immediate impact and save the team from a serious relegation battle.
With the north London derby against Arsenal looming on February 22nd, the board is under enormous pressure to find a leader who can stabilize a broken dressing room.
De Zerbi has a proven track record of implementing a strong winning philosophy in a short period of time, making him an outstanding candidate to steer the club away from doldrums.
