In his latest exclusive column for CF Bayern Insider, Falk explains how the Gunners were one of the clubs that approached Goretzka in January.
According to a German journalist, Arsenal tried to make a move towards the end of the winter season, but the 31-year-old decided to finish his contract at the Allianz Arena.
Falk said Atletico Madrid are also keeping an eye on Goretzka, who will be a free agent this summer.
However, the German international appears to have left Arsenal an option open.
Leon Goretzka could be ready to speak to Arsenal again, says Christian Falk
Speaking about Goretzka’s story and what happens next, Falk said: “It’s true: Arsenal are considering bringing Leon Goretzka to London this summer.
“Remember, there was an offer from Atletico Madrid and negotiations took place during the January period. Goretzka said no. I hear he wants to move to the Premier League next season.”
“Arsenal came knocking on the door at the end of the winter, but Goretzka had already made the decision to stay for the rest of the season. But at this point there were preliminary talks saying, ‘Maybe we’ll talk again in the summer.’
Does Arsenal need Leon Goretzka?
Arsenal have some depth in midfield, but there could also be space for Goretzka.
North London Giants brought in Christian Norgaard from Brentford last summer, but he has barely played for the club so perhaps that position could change a thing or two.
Goretzka’s availability as a free agent makes him an attractive option to add quality and experience, even if he’s not necessarily their priority player.
