Liverpool manager Arne Slott has spoken about the future of Reds midfielder Curtis Jones following his recent link with Inter Milan.

Jones won’t always be an automatic starter for Liverpool, but he’s definitely a player on the team that would be beneficial to the team in the slot, so it’s not necessarily a player they want to lose.

It also makes sense that the 25-year-old is attracting interest from some big names, with TEAMtalk recently claiming that teams like Newcastle could be interested in him in the summer, after Fabrizio Romano reported in January that Inter were interested in signing him.

Regarding Jones’ current situation, Slott suggested that LFC are working to tie him to a new contract.

See below. Romano posted on X about the slot, making it clear that he still considers Jones an important part of his plans, saying: “It’s perfectly normal for a big club like ours to be looking to extend Curtis Jones’ contract and any club that wants to sign him would be interested. He will be part of our plans in the coming weeks, months and next season as well.”

Liverpool should keep Curtis Jones despite transfer interest

While it may be tempting to sign a squad player when interest rises, Liverpool should certainly retain Jones and that seems to be the plan if the slot goes their way.

The Englishman is clearly a hard-working player who can have an impact in big games, and it’s important for the team to retain their homegrown star.

Losing Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid in the summer would have been a huge blow, which makes retaining Jones even more important in terms of bringing someone with genuine links to the club into the first team.

Still, it will be interesting to see if Jones himself is tempted to explore options elsewhere, perhaps as he gets more playing time and could feel more valuable at another club.
