The France international was a hugely important player during his time at Anfield, but is now nearing the end of his contract.
According to The Athletic, Real have cooled their interest in Konate, but the Spanish giants could be considering him again this summer.
Fijages claims that Los Blancos have rekindled their interest in Konate, but Liverpool still have hope they can keep him.
Liverpool need to do what they can to retain Ibrahima Konate
Konate has rarely let Liverpool down since joining from RB Leipzig in 2021 and, at just 26 years old, could play a key role in Liverpool’s future.
That means he is likely not yet at his peak and could have quite a few years left before he replaces Virgil van Dijk as the experienced manager of this LFC team.
Van Dijk certainly can’t play 90 minutes every week for too long, so it would be a big help for Liverpool if Konate could stay.
Above all, the Reds would lose a valuable asset on a free transfer, even though Transfermarkt’s true market value is around €50 million.
It’s easy to see why a big club like Real Madrid would want Konate, and there will certainly be other suitors if he becomes a free agent.
Following the heartbreak of losing Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid in similar fashion last summer, Liverpool will do everything in their power to avoid this scenario.
