Big changes coming for Bryson DeChambeau in the coming weeksGetty Images
Bryson DeChambeau feels different, and that’s a good thing.
The two-time major champion is coming off a season in which he won just one LIV event and no major titles. But he is set to join Jon Rahm at the top of the leaderboard at LIV Golf Adelaide on Sunday and feels he has a better game than he has in recent years at this early stage of the season.

“We’re seeing things happening that we haven’t seen in the last four, five years, early in the year,” DeChambeau said after Friday’s round. “We’re seeing some great lines and feeling comfortable putting. Some of our testers are feeling comfortable with wedges and even some very difficult shots. It’s a great sign to feel this good so early in the season.”

This new feeling is the result of an offseason speed training regimen he started earlier than last year. With this change, DeChambeau feels his clubhead speed is where it should be, although his approach play has been delayed.
When asked where his confidence in his game comes from, DeChambeau said, “I put in a lot of work in the offseason.” “This year I started earlier. I started speed training in November, so that kind of came out of my system. Last year I was preparing and speed training in January. That slowed me down until the middle of the year and gave me a few months, so I changed that up this year. Some nice changes have been made and I feel really fast. In some ways, I feel like I’m too fast. So my iron play is a little off the mark.”

DeChambeau also explained how offseason training includes working with the SportsBox AI. This AI-powered golf training tool takes phone videos and turns them into 3D swing models using biomechanical measurements. DeChambeau is an ambassador for the company.
“I think it was a result of practicing a little bit earlier, practicing with coach Dana and practicing a lot in the sports box,” DeChambeau said. “Working with Sportsbox has been a lot of fun, and I’m really looking forward to it because we’re about to unveil something pretty special using AI. It’s going to be very useful in emergencies when you need something more specific than any coach out there.”
But as he always does, DeChambeau hinted that big changes are on the horizon, whether it’s a new ball, club or offensive scheme. That will help his approach in the upcoming major season.
“Something is coming that I can’t wait for,” DeChambeau said. “I hope I get it in Hong Kong and that three-week stint. And it’s going to be something that will improve my iron play and wedge a lot. We’ll see. You never know.”

The 32-year-old is awaiting mysterious help but has 18 holes left to beat Rahm at Adelaide’s The Grange. DeChambeau has criticized the Saudi-backed league’s change from 54 holes to 72 holes. But the change means DeChambeau will have 18 holes left to distance himself from Rahm, with Rahm birdieing the final hole to tie him at 19 under and not making the playoff on Saturday.
In other words, DeChambeau has no problem transferring at this point.
“I’m definitely happy that we have 18 more games tomorrow,” DeChambeau said. “But it’s tough going to the next round. But we’ve been doing it our whole career, so we’re used to it and we’re pretty comfortable with it. I think we’re separated right now. You never know who might go super deep tomorrow. But right now, we’re both playing great golf and I think we’re giving the fans what they want. This is it.”
On Sunday, LIV’s two biggest stars will face off for the trophy and accompanying Official World Golf Ranking points. And now we have to wait for DeChambeau’s big reveal.
