Aston Villa have already begun their search for the January transfer window, with their sights set on signing the Tottenham Hotspur star.
Aston Villa are planning to sign Tottenham star
It would not be unreasonable to suggest that Aston Villa could replace Tottenham in the Premier League’s top six. The Villans are aiming for a second top-four finish in the last three seasons and at one point had a title challenge in their sights, until injuries plagued Unai Emery’s side.
Tottenham, on the other hand, are on the brink of consecutive bottom-of-the-table finishes and will have to hope that interim manager Igor Tudor hits the ground running amid concerns of relegation.
Unai Emery puts ‘strong pressure’ on England player to join Aston Villa
The Villans manager was keen to sign him.
Villa’s rise has been sensational under Emery, and they could get even better if they overcome their PSR issues this summer.
To that end, several potential targets have already emerged in the Midlands. James Trafford has not been named in the reports, but there is no doubt he would be a great addition.
Manchester City’s shot-stopper recently admitted he wasn’t expecting a substitute role when he rejoined the Citizens in the summer, complaining.
With Gianluigi Donnarumma likely to remain City’s number one for many years to come, Trafford could be on the move again this summer, allowing Villa to pounce.
Signing Premier League stars could also become a summer trend. According to TeamTalk, Aston Villa are also planning to sign Lukas Bergvall from Tottenham this summer, a deal that would give them one over on the Lilywhites for the top six spot.
Bergvall will grow under Unai Emery
Some may be quick to warn the young midfielder about joining Aston Villa, but Bergvall is no Harvey Elliott. The Tottenham midfielder is a mainstay in North London and has no intention of completing his exit in search of game time. He will join Villa as an established star looking to make his mark on a bigger stage.
The 23-year-old, described as “excellent” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has been one of the few players to shine for Tottenham over the past 18 months, and was praised by Glenn Hoddle last year as well.
The former Tottenham and England player was shocked by Bergvall and said:He will continue to grow from now on. He learned very quickly. Some take two seasons to grow and progress.
“He’s grown up in such a short period of time. It’s going to be scary what he’s going to be like when he’s 23, 24.”
