In the 77th minute, Slott made his first substitution of the match, bringing on Federico Chiesa and Rio Ngumoja for Kodi Gakpo and Salah.
The Egyptian forward does not seem happy with the decision. Salah was seen shaking his head with a sarcastic smile as he walked off the pitch. Moments later, cameras caught him on the bench laughing, clearly in disbelief, at a call for an withdrawal, as Liverpool were still looking for a winner.
Mohamed Salah had a disappointing game against Nottingham Forest
By his usual high standards, Salah struggled to make an impact. His numbers against Forest gave an impression of calm.
- 0 shots
- dribbling 0
- 0 accurate crosses
- 4 failed touches
The decision to replace Mr. Slott ultimately proved to be justified, especially given the immediate energy Ngumoha provided. In just 14 minutes on the pitch, the youngster achieved the following:
- 11 touch
- 2/2 Take-on completed (100%)
- Won 2 duels
- 1 opportunity was created
- 1 touch inside the offensive box
There’s no doubt it was an off day for Salah, but there’s no doubting his world-class quality. Even in games where he struggles to make an impact, he has the ability to create decisive moments out of nothing.
However, his reaction is likely to generate further speculation about his future. There is still uncertainty over his long-term prospects at Anfield, having reportedly fallen out with Slott earlier this season. The Saudi Professional League is keen to make him the face of the competition and Al Ittihad is thought to be in talks with his agent.
If tensions continue behind the scenes and results do not improve, this season could be Salah’s final chapter at Liverpool.
