Celtic are currently looking to take an approach in the summer transfer window to sign a ‘key man’ for the Champions League side, which could pose a problem for Southampton.
Those eager to sign a new forward this summer
The Hoops have not been up to their typically high standards this season and are currently six points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts, making it increasingly clear that they need to strengthen their squad this summer.
Signing a new forward appears to be high on the agenda, with the Scottish giants currently leading the race with a potential double deal with Plymouth Argyle’s Bim Ripple and Laurent Toraj.
Toraj in particular could be an interesting signing, with the Swiss striker showing signs of improvement over the past three seasons, proving himself in the National League with Aldershot in 2023-24, before excelling in League Two with Port Vale and League One with Plymouth.
Laurent Toraj attack statistics | League participation | commitment to goals |
2023-24 (Aldershot) | 44 | 30 |
2024-25 (Port Vale) | 37 | twenty two |
2025-26 (Plymouth Argyle) | twenty two | 17 |
However, it would be a risk for Martin O’Neill’s side to bring him in this summer, given that the 24-year-old is yet to prove himself above the third tier of English football, and more established strikers are also on the short list.
According to a report in Sports Boom, Celtic are now keen to approach Bodo/Glimt star Kasper Hogg if he decides to force his way away from the Norwegian club in the summer transfer window.
The Hoops’ interest could spell trouble for potential rivals Southampton, who are likely to receive European football offers at Parkhead next season, while Saints are currently four points clear of the Championship play-offs.
Norwich City have also been mentioned as candidates for the centre-forward, who has been very active in this season’s Champions League…
Hor plays a major role in the Bodo/Glimt fairy tale.
Bodo/Glimt have been one of the surprise packages in this season’s Champions League, having recently booked their place in the round of 16 thanks to a 5-2 aggregate win over Italian giants Inter Milan, and Ho has been key to their success.
The 25-year-old scored one goal and provided two assists in the 3-1 first-leg win over Inter, and also scored twice in the Norwegian side’s surprise 3-1 victory over Manchester City in January.
Former midfielder Frode Thomassen described the Dane as Bodø/Glimt’s “main star”, with a highly impressive 17 goals and six assists in 28 games for Eliteserien last season.
Given his level of performance in this season’s Champions League, Ho could commit to signing for Celtic, but it wouldn’t be surprising to hear from the Premier League giants as well, with Plymouth duo Pipple and Toraj potentially a more realistic transfer target.
Celtic can finally sell Nygren 2.0 at Parkhead this summer
Celtic may need to offload a Parkhead star similar to Benjamin Nygren this summer.
