Let’s consider the future of Tottenham Hotspur on the assumption that they avoid relegation and extend their stay in England’s top flight to 49 consecutive seasons.
Even if Igor Tudor manages to avoid the unthinkable, there is no doubt that ENIC Group has a lot of work ahead of them, and there is much work to do if they are to return to the heights of the Premier League and avoid languishing near the bottom of the table for a third consecutive year.
Where do I start? Sporting director Johan Lange will be tasked with revamping the front line and a lot of things will need to change.
How can Spurs rebuild their front line?
Think about it. Tottenham have released Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Brennan Johnson in recent terms with virtually no replacements. Of course, the Welsh winger is not at the same level as the other two, but he ended the 2024/25 season with 18 goals, making him Spurs’ top scorer.
Randal Kolo Muani leaves much to be desired this season, but the loanee is certain to be let go in the summer. However, it is not only him, Richarlison is also likely to leave as he approaches the final year of his contract with N17.
The Brazil international is perhaps one of the Londoners’ better forwards this year, but his performances on the pitch have hardly lived up to his £60m price tag, with ESPN Brazil reporting that he wants to leave the club after the North American World Cup in 2026.
Although he is a serviceable forward, ferocious and versatile, Richarlison has not been an integral part and the former Everton star’s time at the club has been plagued by injuries for much of his time.
Richarlison, 28, has scored nine goals in 33 games in all competitions and grabbed a consolation after coming off the bench in the recent game against Fulham. Even this is deceptive. This is because he is often missing in matches where he cannot score a goal.

Dominic Solanke’s injury-prone nature and Matthijs Tell’s unsophisticated play leave Tottenham in the market for a new centre-forward, but there may actually be a young academy talent who could secure a move for Richarlison.
‘Irish Harry Kane’ could replace Richarlison
Tottenham need a new striker and teenager Mason Melia could land them a long-term successor to the number nine spot, with the club still coveting someone like Harry Kane.
Melia, 18, joined Tottenham from St Patrick’s Athletic in January, having agreed a record £3m deal with the Republic of Ireland side the year before.
The Ireland Under-21 international, who has six caps and three goals to his name, has already scored 25 senior goals and has been unable to take part in Spurs’ academy due to a muscular injury, but was initially ruled out of considering a loan move from his new London club due to his need to work hard to earn a first-team role.
Hailed by talent scout Jacek Kulig as ‘Ireland’s Harry Kane’, Melia has the potential to become a Premier League superstar, although he is certainly unproven, and has already made his mark in his home country.
We can’t expect Tottenham to summon another Kane from the fog, but they do have the ability to upgrade players like Richarlison, whose fitness levels are erratic and unreliable.
And while Melia is young and unproven, he has the skillset to perform at the highest level of the European game, while also interweaving connections with the Spurs fan base, strengthening connections that have faded during the turbulence of the past few years.

Richarlison is not the root cause of this N17 crisis, but neither is he the solution. Tottenham need to work towards an answer in that regard, having someone who can lead the line with consistency, as Kane has done for many years.
A more experienced No. 9 will be added to the roster, but some may be surprised by Melia’s current ability, toughness and potential as a Premier League option.
Tudor may not be Tottenham’s manager next season, but he needs to steady the ship and plot its future direction, and adding Melia to the squad could help secure that future.

Tottenham could find a new academy-trained sensation in the on-loan forward.
