Liverpool are currently in contact to sign the £35m ‘electric’ forward, with an intense bidding war looming with Newcastle United.
Reds approach signing new forward amid uncertainty over Salah and Gakpo
The Reds are currently increasing their interest in signing a new forward, with former scout Mick Brown suggesting they could be prepared to offload either Kodi Gakpo or Mohamed Salah in the summer transfer window.
Mr Brown said: “After everything that happened last summer and the turmoil it caused, it’s unthinkable for Liverpool to send off multiple attackers. Otherwise it just adds to the anxiety.”
“A lot will depend on what happens with Salah. If Salah leaves, I would expect them to keep Gakpo. If he stays, then probably Gakpo will go in his place.”
The Egyptian has found form in recent weeks, scoring in both games against Wolverhampton Wanderers, but his contract expires at the end of next season and he may need to find a replacement sooner rather than later.
With Salah’s future in doubt, Liverpool are now approaching the signing of a new forward, with Husboordaten reporting that they are in close contact with Al Ittihad star Moussa Diaby over a deal, but there could be stiff competition for his signature.
Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are also in the race to sign Diaby, and the Magpies are also in contact regarding a contract, so a fierce competition is expected with the Magpies.
It could cost at least €40m (about £35m) to lure the Frenchman away from Al Ittihad, and a loan with an option to buy is also being considered.

‘Electric’ Diaby could be a great signing for Liverpool
The 26-year-old certainly impressed during his last spell in the Premier League and was highly rated by Statman Dave after impressing at Aston Villa during the 2023-24 season.
The former Villa star has since become a key player for Al Ittihad, contributing 16 goals in all competitions in the Saudi Professional League this season.
Moussa Diaby’s stats this season | Appearance | commitment to goals |
saudi professional league | twenty four | 8 |
AFC Champions League | 7 | 6 |
king’s cup | 1 | 1 |
saudi super cup | 1 | 1 |
Having spent the past two seasons in Saudi Arabia, the 11-time French international is still relatively inexperienced at the top level, but his 21-goal contribution in all competitions during his only season at Aston Villa suggests he could be a great signing for Liverpool.
