AC Milan are reportedly considering the possibility of signing Manchester City defender Nathan Ake to strengthen their defensive options ahead of next season.
According to Italian newspaper Calciomercato, Serie A clubs have added the Dutch international to their shortlist and could sign him for a relatively low transfer fee compared to his market value.
Milan’s reinforcements are actively exploring opportunities to strengthen their backline, with a particular focus on adding experienced defenders who can be immediately effective at the highest level.
As such, Ake’s situation at Manchester City has attracted particular attention, especially since his contract currently runs until 2027.
Nathan Ake’s role at Man City
Ake joined Manchester City from Bournemouth in 2020 and has since become a reliable member of Josep Guardiola’s side.
Although not always guaranteed as a starter, the 31-year-old has played a key role in City’s defensive rotation during one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.
The main impetus behind Milan’s opportunistic interest is Ake’s contract situation at the Etihad Stadium.
His current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2027, meaning he will be entering the final 12 months of his contract at the end of the current campaign.
AC Milan are looking for an experienced defender
AC Milan are re-evaluating their defensive structure ahead of next season.
The club is looking for experienced players who can fit into their tactical approach while strengthening the squad.
Reports from Italy suggest that his contract expires in 2027, so Man City could consider a reasonable offer if they decide to revamp part of their defensive unit.
Ake’s extraordinary versatility is a big draw for the Milan team. Able to step up as a traditional centre-back, as a left-sided defender in a back three or as an opposite full-back, he would provide invaluable depth.
A move to San Siro would provide Ake with a fresh and prestigious challenge, with a more guaranteed starting role in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues.
