West Ham winger Crisencio Somerville will undergo tests today to determine the extent of his injury, but some sources have already shared a potential deadline.

The Hammers’ remarkable recovery under manager Nuno Espirito Santo has been one of the stories of this season’s Premier League second half.

Abandoned by almost everyone at the start of the year, they have now clawed their way back from what looked like a certain relegation through sheer grit, discipline, renewed team spirit and one man’s brilliance in particular.

Somerville have become something special under Nuno.

The Dutch winger joined from Leeds with little fanfare in 2024, took time to find his feet and has since developed into one of the most dangerous wide players in the division this season.

He has scored five goals in the Premier League in 25/26 seasons, but numbers don’t tell the whole story.

Fabrizio Romano shares Crisencio Somerville update on West Ham concerns

The Dutch are on fire these days.

What made him indispensable was his timing, consistency and goal weight.

Somerville scored in five consecutive games in January and February, and just last weekend he scored the only goal in West Ham’s vital 1-0 win against Fulham.

And while the East London outfit have not won a league game this season in his absence, Somerville is set to be at the center of a signing battle this summer thanks to his excellent form.

The London Stadium had it all on Monday night. A 2-2 draw with Brentford, 120 minutes of FA Cup drama, five perfect penalties and a quarter-final date against Leeds United are now booked.

It was a night that seemed to give a relegation-threatened club just the momentum and belief they needed, but the celebrations were quickly dampened by what happened near the end of extra time.

Somerville, who was brought on at half-time by Nuno, was initially kept on the bench, but appeared to suffer a calf problem in the closing stages.

He limped through the rest of the match – with all the substitutions already made, he had no choice but to play on – and was conspicuously absent as his teammates lined up to take the decisive spot-kick.

Pitchside reporters noted that medical staff were tending to his calf while waiting for him to return to the field. He continued on, showing glimpses of his quality despite being clearly uncomfortable, but that concern was written all over his full-time team-mate’s face.

Nuno said in his post-match assessment that the player only felt the knock and said the club would evaluate him.

But behind the scenes, the situation is even more alarming.

West Ham official ExWHUemployee reported this morning that there were serious concerns within the club, with talkSPORT’s Alex Crook subsequently confirming that Somerville is due to undergo a test today.

Crisencio Somerville to be out for ‘several weeks’ due to injury against West Ham

According to today’s correspondent, Somerville is apparently facing a multi-week absence against West Ham, which will be a huge blow to Nuno’s side.

“I have heard that he has been sidelined with an injury and will undergo tests on Tuesday,” Crook said.

“West Ham officials have said they are concerned that this is an issue that could potentially keep him out for several weeks,” Crook said on the broadcast.

“Obviously that would be a big blow to their hopes of staying in the Premier League.”

The timing couldn’t have been worse, with Man City and Aston Villa both taking place before the international break.

Somerville’s long-term absence looks set to pose a real crisis for the Irons, with the club having rebuilt everything now waiting with bated breath for the final scan results.

West Ham will be praying for good news.
