The best players on the PGA Tour will compete at Moving Day in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, the most important event leading up to the major championships, the 2026 Players Championship. Flagship event of the tour It seems like they always deliver drama. Thanks to TPC Sawgrass’ unique testing, The Players has assembled a huge list of recent winners, including the top two players in the world right now.
Rory McIlroy added a second Players title to his resume last year, entering the tournament as the defending champion. But after dealing with back spasms, McIlroy is doing his best to get through the loaded field. Even more unlucky than McIlroy was Collin Morikawa, who injured his lower back while practicing swinging on the second hole he played on Thursday. Morikawa immediately left the course and left The Players.
Like McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler has won two Players Championships, including back-to-back titles at TPC Sawgrass in the 2023-24 season. The pair are looking to join Jack Nicklaus as the only three-time winners of The Players, but the world’s top two players are far from contention, tied 13 strokes behind 36-hole leader Ludwig Oberg.
Xander Schauffele sits just behind Oberg on the leaderboard, while Russell Henry, Justin Thomas and Tommy Fleetwood are among the big names in distance, all within seven strokes of Oberg in the top 10. While questions remain about Scheffler and McIlroy, the 2026 Players is shaping up to be a fascinating tournament with so many players looking to be hitting their stride.
Here’s how you can watch everything this week at TPC Sawgrass as the PGA Tour’s strongest teams battle it out for golf’s biggest prize.
