The veteran England international is set to become a free agent this summer after four years at St James’ Park, but the club could end up keeping him.
According to a report from Football Insider, Howe wants Newcastle to sign Trippier to a new contract to avoid losing him on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Trippier has fallen out of favor for a while, but is now back to his best and performing well for Howe’s side, prompting the Magpies manager to change his mind about the player’s situation.
Will Kieran Trippier end up staying at Newcastle?
It remains to be seen whether Trippier will definitely accept an offer to stay at Newcastle, although he previously came close to a move to the Turkish club, which ultimately fell through.
The 35-year-old has had an impressive career, spending most of it in the Premier League, apart from three years with Atletico Madrid.
Perhaps Trippier will be eager to take on a new challenge that could be the final stretch of his career.
Newcastle may still need Kieran Trippier
Still, there are some doubts about Tino Livramento’s future heading into the summer, and Newcastle still appear to need Trippier.
The former Chelsea youngster has been linked with a move from Arsenal and other big clubs, and even if he did, it would be difficult to replace him.
Therefore, it could be easier for NUFC to keep Trippier for at least another year in case they have trouble finding another replacement available on the market.
