In terms of down-the-stretch drama, few courses pack as much of a late-game punch as TPC Sawgrass, host of The Players Championship.
On the last three holes of the Stadium Course – the par-5 16th, there seems to be water everywhere. Famous island green par 3 17th with water teeth Literally everywhere. And the par-4 18th, with water all along the left side of the hole, is purpose-built for a thrilling finish, making the course the perfect venue for golf’s other notable event, the Ryder Cup.

Will TPC Sawgrass ever host the biennial America-Europe showdown? On the surface, that seems unlikely since the PGA of America runs the Ryder Cup and the PGA Tour owns TPC Sawgrass. But that didn’t stop subpar hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz from pondering. What if In this week’s episode.
“Imagine coming to the end of the Ryder Cup at TPC Sawgrass,” Knost mused. “So, like we did last year, this whole thing is locked up and you’re standing on the 17th tee. You’ve got the ball.”

“We know it’s the PGA Tour, we know it’s the PGA of America, and for the fans, we want them to understand that,” Stoltz said.
“I think everyone will really like it,” Knost agreed.

“Every year, with a few exceptions, it’s an incredible leaderboard,” Storz added. “The best players in the world. You get the best players and the best drama.”
Knost also praised Sawgrass’ course design.
“It’s just a genius design by Pete Dye,” he said. “He made his players think so much, he made them look at what he knew was a problem, and he bailed them out, and the bailout usually turned out to be worse than the problem.
“When you turn their heads on full tilt like TPC Sawgrass,” he continued. “That’s when they really get tested.”
