Newcastle United have not had the best results this season, but they still have a chance of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
According to UEFA rules introduced in 2024 (h/t Shields Gazette), the two countries with the highest coefficients will be given additional qualifications.
Newcastle still qualify for the Champions League
Considering the performance of English clubs in Europe this season, they are likely to earn an additional Champions League spot. Normally, the top four teams in the Premier League qualify for the Champions League, but now teams that finish fifth are virtually guaranteed a spot as well.
Aston Villa, on the other hand, are aiming to finish in the top four and are favorites to win this season’s UEFA Europa League. If they drop to 5th place and win the European competition, the 6th place will also be given a spot in the Champions League based on their European performance quota.
Similarly, if Liverpool were to win the UEFA Champions League by finishing 5th or 6th this season, the team in 7th place would also qualify for the Champions League.

Newcastle need to finish the season on a high note
Newcastle are currently three points behind seventh-placed Brentford. Many permutations and combinations would have to work in their favor to play in the Champions League next season, but that is still a possibility.
It remains to be seen whether Newcastle will be able to finish the season on a high note and whether other English clubs will be able to win European competitions. Newcastle have a talented squad at their disposal and will feel they should have done better than they have so far this season.
