Joelinton’s concerns for Newcastle
Meanwhile, the derby defeat is not the only cause for concern. They are currently at risk of losing key players to suspension in the Premier League. According to Shields Gazette, the Reds could play the final seven games of the season without Brazilian star Joelinton, who is facing suspension for a yellow card in the Premier League.
Joelinton earned a booking in stoppage time after Brian Brobbey’s winning goal. The Newcastle star wanted to urge his Sunderland players to get back into the game quickly but was booked for doing so. It was his ninth caution in the Premier League, and another yellow card would mean a two-match suspension. However, if he can avoid a booking for the next Premier League game against Newcastle at Crystal Palace, he will avoid a suspension.

Newcastle can’t afford to lose Joelinton
Premier League rules state that if a team can avoid accumulating 10 yellow cards by the 32nd league game of the season, they can play the rest of the season without conceding a goal. It remains to be seen whether the 29-year-old can avoid being booked against the Eagles. Newcastle have important games coming up against clubs like Arsenal and cannot afford to lose the Brazilian.
It has been a disappointing season for Newcastle and they will be desperate to improve. Losing key players for two games would be a devastating blow.
