Denzel Dumfries has been linked with a move from Inter Milan for the past few months.
The 29-year-old full-back is reportedly a target for Manchester United and Liverpool. According to a report in Italian publication L’Interista, the Italian team is hoping to agree a new contract with him.
They are impressed with his performance and don’t want to lose the player. Inter Milan are reportedly willing to offer him a contract worth 5 million euros per season until 2029. The defender had previously reached a verbal agreement to renew his contract with the Italian team, but wanted the deal to include a €25 million release clause. Inter hope to agree a contract extension with the defender without a release clause. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop.
The defender wants a buyout clause included in his contract so he can move if the right opportunity arises. Manchester United and Liverpool can certainly afford to pay him a release clause, and it remains to be seen how the situation will develop.
Manchester United could use more depth at right-back. The experienced Dutch international could compete with Diogo Dalot for a starting spot. He can play not only as a wing-back but also as a right-back. He will contribute at both ends of the pitch and help improve Manchester United. Dumfries scored 25 goals and provided 26 assists for Inter Milan.
Similarly, Liverpool need more depth at right-back. Jeremy Frimpong and Conor Bradley have struggled with injury problems this season. They need more options in that area and signing the Dutch international could be a smart move. He has the qualities and experience to make an immediate impact. Liverpool have some strong Dutch players in their squad, which could give them an advantage in the transfer race.
