Arsenal remain interested in signing Real Madrid defender Victor Valdepenas after the season and will face competition from AC Milan.
The 19-year-old is highly regarded in Spain and has a bright future ahead of him. He has impressed in his chances at Real Madrid and Arsenal will continue to keep an eye on him ahead of the summer transfer window.
Arsenal sign Victor Valdepenas
According to Spanish publication AS, they are moving to secure his signature and it remains to be seen whether they will follow up their interest with a formal offer in the summer. Signing the player could cost around 50 million euros, so Arsenal certainly have the financial wherewithal to make a deal.
However, they have several quality defenders at their disposal and it would be quite surprising if they decided to invest in the 19-year-old. There is no doubt that he is a talented player with a promising future, but they may not be able to offer him regular minutes.
Valdepenas needs to play regularly
Valdepenas needs regular opportunities to further develop and realize his potential at this stage of his career. Joining a big club just to sit on the bench will have a negative impact on his development. This move may not be ideal for the young defender either.
Also, Real Madrid would not want to lose a talented player like him too soon. A move to Arsenal this summer appears to be complicated.
AC Milan, on the other hand, could be an exciting opportunity for the young defender. They can provide him with regular game time and have a good track record of developing young players.
