Manchester United have entered the race to sign Liverpool’s attacking target after completing a recent scouting mission.
Rooney says Carrick ‘must get’ Manchester United job
Man United will finally be back in action next Monday. After the international break and FA Cup weekend, the Red Devils will have their sights set on getting back to winning ways against rivals Leeds United and strengthening their top-four chances in the process.
It’s a chance for caretaker manager Michael Carrick to secure his eighth win in 11 games in charge this season, an incredible feat after Ruben Amorim’s disastrous tenure.
Carrick is becoming harder to pass on by the week as INEOS continue to explore long-term managerial options, with Wayne Rooney now believing he ‘must’ take the job.
The Manchester United legend said: “100% he should (get the job). I said this. I knew this was going to happen with Michael Carrick.”
“I know him very well. I know his personality, I know his personality. You need calmness, but knowing the place and the players, you needed love. And he gave them that.”
“We’ve seen the players playing more quality, coming together more as a team and we look like a very strong team. For me, why would I replace him? He has the best winning percentage of any Manchester United manager after so many games. For me, he has to win the job.”
If it’s Carrick, INEOS will no doubt support him this summer, having just completed a scouting mission for the attacking star.
Manchester United complete scouting mission for Akrios
As reported by TeamTalk, Manchester United have entered the race to sign Magnes Akuriosh after INEOS completed a scouting mission for the AS Monaco winger over the weekend.
The Frenchman took the lead against Marseille as Old Trafford and Liverpool officials looked on. There could be considerable competition for Akurioche this summer, with Man United looking to complete a rebuild of their attacking line-up and Liverpool looking for a replacement for Mohamed Salah.
League statistics 25/26 | Magnes Acriosh | Brian Mbeumo |
|---|---|---|
minutes | 1,977 | 2,196 |
the goal | 6 | 9 |
assist | 3 | 3 |
dribbling success | 19 | 14 |
An opportunity has arisen | 31 | 40 |
It’s easy to see why Manchester United would be interested. With the possibility of competing in the Champions League next season, the addition of depth will no doubt be appreciated by whoever takes charge, and Acrios, who was previously valued at £50m, will no doubt add to that.
The AS Monaco man, described as “powerful” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has almost matched Brian Mbeumo in stride this season. There are alternative options available, but the 24-year-old would be a perfect fit for Man United next season.
