To their credit, INEOS is slowly but surely starting to make Manchester United’s recruitment strategy a huge success.
It took time to translate that onto the pitch, and there was the resignation of a manager, but Matheus Cunha, Brian Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Rams have all enjoyed recent successes.
It’s in stark contrast to previous windows, when players like Angel Di Maria, who became the pantomime of Old Trafford’s villains, appeared before recent failures like Rasmus Hjøjlund and Anthony.
It’s no exaggeration to say that Manchester United have had to learn some tough lessons, but INEOS are finally turning things around.
INEOS to make next big investment for Manchester United
As if visited by the ghosts of three of Man United’s past, Sir Jim Ratcliffe ignored saving methods last summer and spent millions to transform the Red Devils.
The INEOS chiefs have invested heavily in transforming their frontline from incredibly insensitive to undeniably scintillating, and it would not be unreasonable to suggest that the Red Devils are currently the most dangerous team in transition that the Premier League has to offer.
Last summer’s transfer plans weren’t complicated either. There was no focus on European stars. They have failed several times at Old Trafford. There was also a lack of focus on unproven players like Hojlund and Anthony who deserve big money.
Instead, Man United have found the perfect combination. They brought in two proven Premier League talents in Mbeumo and Cunha to lay the foundations of a new front line, and then invested in Sesco’s future while also solving their goalkeeping problem with Lamence. All four have particularly improved under interim manager Michael Carrick.
25/26 statistics | the goal | assist |
|---|---|---|

Sesco | 10 | 1 |
It’s a recruiting strategy that is likely to continue this summer. In fact, according to talkSPORT, Manchester United are in talks to sign Elliott Anderson in a deal worth £120 million.
Rumors have been swirling around the English midfielder in recent months, with talkSPORT reporting that while Nottingham Forest are yet to receive a “formal bid” for the talisman’s services, both City and United have “held negotiations with the player’s camp”.
City are pessimistic about their chances, but United are in the same league, so it’s not a foregone conclusion.
Manchester United’s richest contract in history
Many of their additions have not lived up to expectations.
Why Anderson is Manchester United’s best player since Bruno Fernandes
When it comes to innovative signings, Anderson will be up there alongside Bruno Fernandes.
If Man United are to move on from a forgettable era, they will have Fernandes to thank for being one of the best midfielders in the area this term. He scored eight goals and had a whopping 17 assists. While many players around him failed, especially under coach Ruben Amorim, the Portuguese was the one constant for the Red Devils.
Well, if they are able to start a new era of success, it could be Anderson who takes the torch from the captain.
The Nottingham Forest man has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League this season, despite the team chipping away to maintain their top-flight status.
£120m may seem like a lot of money this summer, but the England international could quickly prove to be worth every penny of the sum. When Casemiro heads for the exit, Anderson will hand Man United the perfect midfielder who would be a perfect fit for the current physically-driven version of English football.
Highest recovery rate in Europe | |
|---|---|
Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest) | 257 |
Luis Milla (Getafe) | 176 |
Luka Modric (AC Milan) | 172 |
Mamadou Sangare (lens) | 171 |
Kaishu Sano (Mainz) | 169 |
In all of Europe, there aren’t many players who are as good at possession as Andersson. He not only recovered the ball more than anyone else this season; He did so in a dominant manner. Even the iconic Luka Modric can’t even come close.
However, that is not to say Man United will sign a one-dimensional midfielder. Only 13 players in Europe’s top five leagues have completed more passes than Anderson so far this season, but that has happened in Nottingham Forest, a team unlikely to dominate possession too often.
Under Carrick’s direction, Manchester United’s team has created an attacking flow with all its might, and has risen to third place in the Premier League. Add a solid midfield foundation here and you could sneak back to the glory days.
Forcing £120m all at once, the Red Devils could combine Fernandes, Koby Mainu and Anderson to form one of the best midfield trios in English football next season.

Bruno Fernandes could forge new links at Man United.
