West Ham United are fighting hard to remain in the Premier League under manager Nuno Espirito Santo, and their players are attracting interest from top clubs.

Amidst a tough campaign, with the Hammers currently sitting 18th in the table and battling a decline, 21-year-old midfielder Matheus Fernandes has emerged as a rare, undeniable bright spot.

His dynamic, all-action performances have inevitably caught the eye of the Premier League’s elite, and speculation is rife about his departure in the summer.

However, according to a recent report from TEAMtalk, a firm line has been drawn in West Ham’s hierarchy and they have no intention of letting the Portuguese maestro leave this summer, regardless of his top-flight status.

The list of clubs vying for Fernandes’ signature is rapidly expanding, with Man United heavily featured in the conversation.

The Red Devils are reportedly keen on signing a midfielder as they aim to revamp their engine room.

This interest has been greatly amplified by enthusiastic support from captain Bruno Fernandes, who reportedly names his young compatriot and former Sporting CP academy product as the ideal long-term successor at Old Trafford.

But United aren’t the only ones praising them. Manchester City sporting director Hugo Viana knows the youngster well from their time together in Portugal and is said to be monitoring him as a possible replacement for the departing Bernardo Silva.

Despite intense external pressure and the looming threat of the Championship, West Ham remain resolute.

The Hammers, who invested a huge fee of over £40m to bring Fernandes to East London from Southampton in 2024, see the 21-year-old as the absolute cornerstone of their long-term project.

While the club’s recruitment team is busy drawing up contingency plans in case of a possible relegation, Fernandes is completely exempt from any expected fire sale.

Just getting the club to the negotiating table would cost an astronomical amount of money. As the summer approaches, West Ham look ready to step up and build their future around their standout star.
