MONACO — Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will renew their rivalry as “Sincaras” when they face off in Sunday’s Monte Carlo Masters final for No. 1 in the rankings.

Sinner, a four-time Grand Slam champion, will regain the top spot if he defeats Alcaraz, a seven-time major champion and Monte Carlo’s defending champion.

Sinner defeated Alexander Zverev 6-1, 6-4 on Saturday to reach his first Monte Carlo final for the eighth consecutive year. In the semifinals, Alcaraz defeated home favorite Valentin Bachelot 6-4, 6-4, finishing with a spectacular drop shot.

Alcaraz heads into his ninth final with a 10-6 lead in the head-to-head matchup with Sinner. Both players are aiming for their 27th career title.

Sinner dominated Indian Wells and Miami, becoming only the fourth male player to reach the finals of the first three Masters tournaments of a season, following Roger Federer (2006), Rafael Nadal (2011) and Novak Djokovic (2015).

Alcaraz has won two titles this year, including the Australian Open, where he defeated Djokovic to become the youngest player to win all four tennis tournaments.
