British teenager Mika Stoisavljevic scored a huge upset over Australia’s Talia Gibson on her Billie Jean King Cup debut in Melbourne.
Stoisavljevic, 17, overcame a gap of 219th place in the WTA rankings to win 7-6 (4), 7-5.
The 2024 US Open junior champions gave Britain the perfect start in qualifying as Anne Keosavong’s side look to make a breakthrough in the absence of Emma Raducanu, Sonai Kartal, Katie Boulter and Fran Jones.

Stoisavljevic took an early 3-1 lead but needed a tiebreak to take the first set, successfully defending five break points and ending a see-saw second set that included five breaks of service.
Stoisavljevic said: “I feel great. I can’t believe it. I can’t even remember the last point.” “I had great support from the sidelines and was able to get through it.”
