Leeds United inquire about signing Brighton star

Leeds United are reportedly among the clubs to inquire about the status of Brighton goalkeeper Karl Rushworth ahead of the summer.

The 24-year-old is currently on loan from Brighton at Championship leaders Coventry City, where he has performed well as Frank Lampard’s side close in on promotion to the Premier League.

It remains to be seen what impact this will have on Rushworth’s future, with Coventry certainly keen to keep him if the team moves up, but Leeds have been approached about a potential deal, according to TEAMtalk.

Leeds could sign a new goalkeeper, with Rushworth looking like a player with a big future at this level, but it could also depend on what happens with Brighton’s current number one Bert Verbruggen this summer.

Will Carl Rushworth get a chance at Brighton?

Rushworth has never actually played a single minute of a game for Brighton and is currently on his sixth loan spell from the Seagulls.

However, Verbruggen’s impressive form has left his future in some doubt, and manager Fabian Hürzeler may need to bring in a replacement soon.

Rushworth could be ideal and perhaps he will finally be given the role once his loan to Coventry ends this summer.

According to a recent report from talkSPORT, Tottenham are interested in Verbruggen and could feature in the coming weeks and months.

Still, if Brighton manage to keep Verbruggen, they are certain to shut out Rushworth again, potentially paving the way for Leeds or someone else to snap up him.
