Keegan Bradley’s first speech in Beth Page Black as Captain Hit of the Ryder Cup largely <\/em>The correct note. <\/p>\n

He introduced the team with pride and a bit of humor (thanks to Scotty Schaeffler, “from New Jersey.”). He did he play his St. John’s roots, Queen’s “Grit and Grime,” and everyone did? He delivered a handful of lines with a heartfelt straight, admitting that the Ryder Cup captain had never dreamed of enough experiences he had ever achieved. <\/p>\n

But there was a moment when the eyebrows raised for almost everyone involved. It’s one line that elicits more than a handful of laughs in the Ryder Cup stage and crowd. Is the moment in question almost paraphrased by the speech viewer?<\/p>\n

“I still remember when I first fell in love with the Ryder Cup as a 13-year-old boy riding my father’s shoulder at Brookline in 1999,” Bradley said. “I will never forget the moment I see everything that Justin Rose described as a winning putt on hole 17 on Sunday.” <\/p>\n

It was a moving anecdote and a story that helped to contextualize Bradley’s love and passion for this week’s event. But there was small <\/em>Missing Details: Bradley got the wrong Justin. <\/p>\n

Of course, Bradley had it meaning <\/em>To mention Justin Leonard<\/em>on a 45-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole in Brookline, Jose Maria Orazabal was sent to give the Americans an unthinkable comeback victory. <\/p>\n
