Coming full circle, the top 50 players will begin the DP World Tour Championship at Dubai&#8217;s Jumeirah Golf Estates.<\/p>\n<p>The races throughout the season feature names and faces that most people don&#8217;t know at the top of the standings, but that&#8217;s part of the fun, and there&#8217;s something different for everyone. Ten players in particular will have the right to play on the PGA Tour in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>As it stands, 11 of the top 16 players in the Race to Dubai are not members of the PGA Tour. The remaining five are Rory McIlroy (ranked No. 1 on the DP World Tour in 2025 despite playing just 10 games), Tyrrell Hatton, Robert McIntyre, Aaron Rye and Tommy Fleetwood. The latter three are recent winners and nominees who are rapidly rising through the ranks.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone can win the DP World Tour Championship, but at the Race to Dubai, only the top three finishers of McIlroy, Marco Penge and Hatton will be able to claim the annual crown by the end of the week. McIlroy has a nearly 800-point lead over Penge, with the winner receiving 2,000 points and the last-place finisher in the 50-man field receiving 57.60 points. This margin will be easy to overcome, just as we saw last year when Paul Waring went from obscurity to a member of the PGA Tour by defeating Hatton in the penultimate event, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, for his first win in six years.<\/p>\n<p>That week, Waring entered the Official World Golf Rankings at No. 229 and played on the PGA Tour, where the 40-year-old looked a lot like players ranked outside the world&#8217;s top 200. Despite the season he put together, Waring&#8217;s rise shows that it only takes one good tournament to change fortunes. <\/p>\n<p>For the McIlroys and Fleetwoods of the world, the concern is less about where they will play next season and more about what they still have the potential to achieve this season. This year has had historical significance for both men, and it has been a year in which they have cleared hurdles and even been exposed to hardships, but it is also a campaign in which there is still much to be exploited.<\/p>\n<p>McIlroy has a chance to win more Race to Dubai laurels and betting on him may be financially irresponsible. (McIlroy is also the 4-1 favorite to win the DP World Tour Championship, according to DraftKings.) He has won a total of six Race to Dubai titles, including three in a row, tied for second in DP World Tour history with Seve Ballesteros. McIlroy and Henrik Stenson were the only two to win the Race to Dubai and the PGA Tour&#8217;s FedEx Cup in the same year, but McIlroy won the DP World Tour Championship without winning. Fleetwood is the second favorite behind McIlroy for the DP World Tour Championship on 11\/2.<\/p>\n<p>Fleetwood has potential <em>technically<\/em> Along with Stenson, he is the second player to win the DP World Tour Championship and the Tour Championship in the same season. It&#8217;s not the climax of a season-long race like a PGA Tour win, but a win this week would cap off what has been a transformative season for the beloved Englishman.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"McIlroys_memorable_year\"><\/span>McIlroy&#8217;s memorable year<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Rory&#8217;s 2025 feels like a record year for the stock index, with every signature pointing to a new high. And just like stocks, it&#8217;s no surprise that when you dig into the weekly data, you see ups and downs, hot spells, and cold spells. <\/p>\n<p>What started with McIlroy&#8217;s concentration as he dusted off the field at Pebble Beach and baptized J.J. Spahn at The Players Championship led to Sunday&#8217;s Masters, the longest day in golf history. There he lost and won the green jacket for what seemed like the millionth time. <\/p>\n<p>Having finally won the Masters and a career Grand Slam, McIlroy was seen as a player with a &#8220;weight lifted off his shoulders&#8221; and there were claims that he was going to shed a tear in the sport as he racked up win after win.<\/p>\n<p>But that&#8217;s the funny thing about achieving a lifelong dream. Without them pushing you, you need to find new sources of motivation and drive.<\/p>\n<p>McIlroy wandered around a bit and got stuck in the bushes at times, whether it was being a misfit driver at the PGA Championship that many believed he would win, or dealing with the media for much of the summer. It was all a little awkward.<\/p>\n<p>McIlroy took some time off to recover. In doing so, he rediscovered his mojo, much like Austin Powers. He finished runner-up at the Scottish Open, and followed that up with a strong performance at the Open in his home country of Northern Ireland. Experts can easily tell that he didn&#8217;t care much about the FedEx Cup playoffs, but when he returned to the K Club for the Irish Open, which he won in the playoffs, his ears perked up again.<\/p>\n<p>Remaining on his schedule was the Ryder Cup, where he became the center of attention for New York fans and the center of celebration after his good friend Shane Lowry won on Sunday. <\/p>\n<p>So now that the year has come full circle and the DP World Tour Championship begins, a few concepts about McIlroy hold true: (1) When he stays concerned and involved, he&#8217;s a bad, bad guy. (2) Just like the stock market, it may feel like a roller coaster for a few weeks, but it will likely recover by the end of the year.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Fleetwoods_panic\"><\/span>Fleetwood&#8217;s panic<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Apparently, three months is all it takes to change the world&#8217;s perception of you. Fleetwood, described by fans as a &#8220;choker,&#8221; &#8220;loser,&#8221; and &#8220;(insert whatever word you want to describe a flaw),&#8221; has won the Tour Championship and even the FedEx Cup since the end of August, was the star of Europe&#8217;s Ryder Cup-winning team, and won the Indian championship on the DP World Tour.<\/p>\n<p>Fleetwood would have qualified for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship regardless of his Race to Dubai placings given his Ryder Cup berth, but thanks to his victory at Derry GC, he qualified on his own terms. He entered the postseason ranked 26th and moved up to 10th after losing to Rai in the playoffs, looking to continue his strong run that has tended to peak in his native Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>Fleetwood has finished in the top five three times in the past six DP World Tour Championships, including runner-up finishes in 2019 and 2023. Although his play at Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship course Yas Links wasn&#8217;t as extensive last week, he still showed promise by leading the tournament for much of the week.<\/p>\n<p>But that&#8217;s never the case<em> this<\/em> Fleetwood appeared. He&#8217;s 4th in the OWGR, 2nd in the Data Golf Rankings, and 3rd in my ultra-official &#8220;Best Player of the Year&#8221; rankings, behind Scottie Scheffler and McIlroy. He may look the same, make the same swing, and smile the same, but make no mistake, he&#8217;s not the same.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"next_10\"><\/span>next 10<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This year marks the third season in which the PGA Tour has granted dual membership to individuals (non-exempt) who finish in the top 10 at the Race to Dubai. This route added a layer of drama to the season finale, which was sometimes lacking due to the leader&#8217;s points advantage.<\/p>\n<p>Mathieu Pabon birdied the final four holes of the DP World Tour Championship, knocking Rasmus Heigaard out of the final standings in 2023. The Frenchman then won the Farmers Insurance Open at the start of the 2024 season, defeating Rasmus&#8217; twin brother Nikolai, sealing his place on the PGA Tour for the next two years and ensuring his absence from Heigo&#8217;s holiday card mailing list.<\/p>\n<p>But after that Pav\u00f3n moment and the ensuing feud at No. 2 Pinehurst that summer, European players have yet to perform well.<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the 2025 FedEx Cup standings, not a single player who earned a card in the Race to Dubai qualified for the postseason. Tom McKibbin had perhaps his best year ever &#8212; and had just won the Hong Kong Open to earn him a ticket to the Masters and British Open &#8212; but he didn&#8217;t play on the PGA Tour, instead taking his talents to LIV Golf and joining Jon Rahm&#8217;s team.<\/p>\n<p>Hojgaard (Rasmus variety) finished at the top of the team and did well enough to keep his card at No. 76 in the FedEx Cup standings, while Thorbjorn Olesen just moved into the top 100 thanks to a T3 finish at the Bank of Utah Championship. Aside from the two Danes, you&#8217;ll have to scroll somewhere in the 150s to find the rest of the area. not good!<\/p>\n<p>this crew does<em> look<\/em> No, though. Seven of the top 10 are over 30 years old. One of the three outliers, Keita Nakajima, has been the world&#8217;s top amateur for more than a year and a half, and the other is the best player to reach the top, primarily on the DP World Tour this year.<\/p>\n<p>Penge, who has just been released from a three-month suspension for gambling on golf events (none of which took part in the field), poses McIlroy&#8217;s biggest threat to the Race to Dubai title. The Briton narrowly saved his DP World Tour card in 2024 and responded with three wins in 2025, most recently the Spanish Open, earning invitations to the Masters and British Open. <\/p>\n<p>Talk about a parlay!<\/p>\n<p>Penge has moved up to 29th place in the OWGR, while Alex Nolen is in the top 20 but is only stuck there due to injuries. The Swede has several avenues to secure a PGA Tour card, as he could still finish within the top 100 in the FedEx Cup rankings, but the DP World Tour route seems more realistic given his two recent wins, including the BMW PGA Championship.<\/p>\n<p>Haotong Li laughs as he heads to the bank alongside Scheffler in the final group of the British Open, while Rory Canter has played in Major Championships as well as Challenge Tour, LIV Golf, PGA Tour and DP World Tour events since early 2024. <\/p>\n<p>If I had to guess, at least three of the top 10 players who earn next season&#8217;s PGA Tour cards will keep their cards until 2027.
