TURIN, Italy — Carlos Alcaraz was all smiles on Friday as he held up the year-end No. 1 tennis player trophy.<\/p>\n

After a fierce battle with Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz secured his ranking on Thursday by winning all three group stage matches at the ATP Finals.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old Spaniard was presented with the trophy at the Inalpi Arena in Turin, just before the match between Sinner and Ben Shelton.<\/p>\n

“I’m very happy to be No. 1 in the world again,” Alcaraz said. “That’s something that I work hard on every day with my team. To be honest, that’s a goal, but I don’t think it’s a journey that you go through alone.<\/p>\n

“It’s with your whole team, your family and your loved ones who are behind you and always support you through the hard times and the good times.”<\/p>\n

This is the second time in Alcaraz’s career that he has finished at the top of the annual rankings.<\/p>\n

He achieved the feat in 2022 at the age of 19, making him the youngest player to win first place in a year.<\/p>\n

“In 2022 we can get our first trophy again and I have the same team. I’m still really proud of the team I have,” Alcaraz added.<\/p>\n

“So for me, this is a great accomplishment. Honestly, this means the world to me and I’m really proud and happy.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
