This number also exceeded the 41,949 spectators who attended the 2025 Cheltenham Festival earlier in the week. Unlike the festival, which can accommodate maximum capacity due to temporary structures, the New Year’s Day event had a lower capacity since it lacks a full village setup.<\/p>\n
A highlight of the day was the L’Erquil Hurdle race, where favorite Cabral de Maysan, ridden by Harry Skelton, won decisively by five and a half lengths over Jinko Blue. Guy Lavender, Cheltenham’s chief executive, noted that New Year gatherings have grown significantly in recent years and hitting the venue\u2019s capacity is a remarkable accomplishment, despite the limited infrastructure compared to the March festival.<\/p>\n
