Under the guidance of trainer Brian Lynch and jockey Mario Gutierrez\u2014who also secured a win earlier that day with Kitten&#8217;s Joy\u2014Sister Troienne completed the 1 1\/16-mile race in 1:40.76. Lynch enjoyed a successful Gulfstream championship meet, capturing seven stakes wins overall, five of which came with Gutierrez aboard.<\/p>\n<p>The 31st running of the Sweetest Chant was part of a strong lineup of five stakes races for three-year-olds on Saturday\u2019s 12-race card, which also featured the $275,000 Holy Bull Stakes (G3), an important stepping stone toward the $1 million Curlin Florida Derby (G1) scheduled for March 28 at Gulfstream.<\/p>\n<p>Sister Troienne, owned by the Mannings, entered the race on the heels of victories in the Ginger Brew and Wait a While Stakes. She controlled the pace early, clocking splits of 23.33 seconds and 47.56 seconds, and steadily distanced herself from the field while running side-by-side with longshot Day to Day heading into the turn. Longshot Spicy Princess made a strong move to improve her position, with Brat Pack finishing third.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was very impressive, and she posted a solid time,\u201d Lynch remarked. \u201cDown the backstretch, she looked like a sure winner at every stride. I truly believe she\u2019s improving as the race goes on. She has a large, efficient stride and when you ask her to accelerate, she delivers more. It will be interesting to see how she handles tougher competition.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Sister Troienne is a Lemon Drop Kid mare and the younger sibling of stakes competitor Dyna Passer.
