Liverpool are reportedly one step closer to signing Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet, who has completed a medical with the Reds.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The talented 20-year-old has attracted a lot of attention this winter, with The Athletic set to report on his medical at Liverpool.<\/p>\n

And now the Telegraph’s Mike McGrath has posted in X that the medical has been completed and Jaquet is set to join Liverpool in the summer in a \u00a360m package.<\/p>\n

The deal between Jaquet and Liverpool appears to be almost complete, so read below for more details…<\/p>\n

McGrath posted: “Jeremy Jaquet has completed his medical at Liverpool. The 20-year-old centre-back will be joining us.” <\/span>#LFC<\/span> It is a \u00a360m deal, with an upfront payment of \u00a355m, and he will join in the summer after finishing the season at Rennes. \u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Chelsea were also linked with a move to sign Jaquet early in this transfer window, but it appears that no deal was reached.<\/p>\n

Sky Sports’ Kavet Solhekor posted that the Blues are chasing the young defender and Rennes have always wanted to keep him until the summer.<\/p>\n

This was perhaps the key detail as LFC have apparently allowed Jaquet to remain at the Ligue 1 club for a few more months.<\/p>\n

In contrast, Chelsea now appear to really need a new defender and this led to the recall of Mamadou Sarr from his loan spell at Strasbourg.<\/p>\n

Liverpool fans will be pleased to see the club move quickly to take over the contract and secure the availability of one of Europe’s most highly-rated young defenders.<\/p>\n

Arne Slott looks like he could sign such a deal in the near future with Virgil van Dijk not getting any younger, while Ibrahima Konate is nearing the end of his contract this summer.<\/p>\n
